JLEAN package includes two fonts for creating GTIN/EAN13, GTIN/EAN8, ISBN, ISSN and UPC12 barcodes: full height font JLEAN and half height font JLEAN Matala. This package includes also Excel-documents, that calculate the proper barcode sequence and also the check digit, if necessary.
The former European standard EAN (European Article Number) has merged with e.g. UPC into a global standard GTIN (Global Trade Item Numbers). That's why we are using now both names.
You can produce on JLEAN fonts also EAN AddOns, which are needed e.g. for denoting different issues on newspapers and periodicals using ISSN barcodes.
In the ViisasEAN font package there are five different faces: ViisasEAN Matala (low), MelkoMatala (quite low), Tavallinen (normal), AikaKorkea (rather high), and Korkea (high). You see all faces in the picture below.
You can produce also AddOn barcodes using ViisasEAN fonts. These are needed e.g. on publications for denoting the issue. OpenType features can not produce the check digit on AddOn barcodes, but you can calculate it using Excel or LibreOffice Calc spreadsheets included in the font package.
This is the first and only one in this kind - as far we know!
ViisasEAN [Finnish "WiseEAN"] is an OpenType font, that can build automatically proper GTIN/EAN 13 or 8 barcode sequence without any auxiary programs. You can use this font on applications, that understand typographic OpenType features: 1) on Windows MS Word 2010 or newer (not e.g. Excel 2010 or PowerPoint), MS Excel 2013 and PowerPoint 2013 or newer; 2) on Mac OS X Mellel, TextEdit, Bean, LibreOffice 3.6 Writer and Calc or newer (on OS X 10.5 and newer); 3) on both Mac OS and Windows Quark XPress and Adobe's CS programs (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop); 4) on Linux (kernel 3.2.0 and newer) LibreOffice 4.3 (and newer). You'll get a proper barcode section without any further steps. If you nee shorter GTIN/EAN8 barcode, just type percent + 8 numbers + percent (for example: *12345678*) and you'll get a nice and proper barcode.
